MADISON, Wis. — March 7, 2012 — Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted market leader for lecture capture, enterprise and event webcasting, today announced availability of Mediasite playback on Android mobile devices. This announcement supports the ongoing evolution of Sonic Foundry’s mobile strategy and commitment to support the growing base of Android users worldwide.

According to the Google Mobile Blog, Android has a year-over-year growth rate of 250 percent, with 850,000 new devices coming online each day and more than 300 million devices already in use around the world. By engineering for Android support, Sonic Foundry is responding to both the platform growth and growing adoption of Mediasite 6, its most recent webcasting platform release which leverages live HD mobile streaming to radically accelerate the adoption of lecture capture and video content management for education institutions, corporations and government at any stage in their video streaming initiatives.

“Mediasite support for Android is the ideal solution for Android-carrying students, faculty and staff within the University of Tennessee system. Lectures and special events like commencement and guest speakers will be available at the tap of a button,” said Jack Holden, webcasting administrator at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“When it comes to mobile playback, Mediasite is driving an incredible volume of video and rich media at the university and enterprise level. We’re delighted that anyone with an Android, iOS or BlackBerry device now has real-time access to streaming presentations in the palm of their hand,” said Gary Weis, CEO of Sonic Foundry. “Mobile devices are evolving at a blistering pace, and we are dedicated to supporting our customers’ needs as new platforms become available.”
