PLANAR PS-SERIES DISPLAYS DEPICT HOPE, INSPIRE SUPPORT

Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) and its Doernbecher Children's Hospital have been at the forefront of the treatment of cancer and other illnesses affecting children for decades. Hallmarks of these institutions are the use of advanced technology in research and extraordinary compassion and support that are brought to patients and their families, as well as deeply-held appreciation to those who are on the front lines of clinical research and the delivery of care.

As a result of its technological prowess and dedication to supporting the efforts of OHSU, Planar has developed a long-standing relationship with the university that most recently saw it provide LCD displays to OHSU's Biomedical Research Building. These displays – Planar® PS-Series™ – form part of what is called The Children's Wall, an area that serves as a powerful visual reminder of children receiving care at Doernbecher, families who love and support them and researchers who are working hard to find cures for the illnesses they face.

Serving healthcare in many personal ways

"Planar's understanding about the power of telling stories of perseverance – from researchers and patients alike – allows OHSU Doernbecher to highlight the need to continue our critical research," says Stacy Nicholson, M.D., M.P.H., Chair of Pediatrics and Physician-in-Chief, OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. "The Planar display allows our researchers in the lab to stay connected to clinical importance of their work. This puts OHSU Doernbecher at the forefront of developing treatments that save children's lives."

"If we can do nothing else in providing our displays to The Children's Wall, our hope is that it inspires the community to honor these children and constantly remind everyone involved in research and treatment of the significance of their work," says Jennifer Davis, Vice President of Marketing, Planar Systems.

Davis adds that the Planar PS-Series displays in the OHSU Children's Wall reflect Planar's growing commitment to serve the healthcare sector, often in very personal ways. Solutions such as this one acknowledge care, research and connection to the community. Others are designed to help with everything from self-service patient check-in, to way-finding, surgical scheduling and more. "With the significant demands being placed on the full spectrum of healthcare, the need for innovation in visual communication has never been stronger. We are determined to continue to lead in addressing this need with display products specifically engineered for this dynamic and vital environment," Davis says.

Features that help bring stories to life

The two Planar PS-Series custom displays Planar provided to OHSU are 47-inch and 55-inch models, in both portrait and landscape orientations. Both models are commercial-grade LCD displays designed for 24/7 operation and deliver 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The resolution and brightness set these displays apart. The images are clear and crisp and the colors are vivid. The images of the children draws the viewer in and brings their stories to life.

The digital displays are capable of showing far more than could be shown on typical hard-mounted pictures or printed posters. OHSU faculty members receive hundreds if not thousands of photos from past or current patients and families. With the Planar screens, there is almost no limit to the number of these images OHSU can display.

Providing solutions the system needs and its patients and providers deserve

Fully cognizant of this potential and the needs at hand, the Planar PS-Series – as well as Planar's other products for healthcare – reflect these attributes: sturdy structural integrity, high operational reliability, suitability to high-traffic environments, low cost of ownership and aesthetics that please and calm individuals' senses while also fitting well with the evolving architecture of healthcare.

Planar's PS-Series displays – including those at OHSU – are backed by a three-year advanced replacement warranty. This means that should a problem occur causing a display to fail, Planar will have a replacement on site and installed within 48 hours.
